A box cutter found on a plane forced the evacuation of passengers on a flight preparing to leave Tampa International Aiport for Memphis on Saturday morning.

TIA spokesperson Janet Zink said Delta flight 2302 was preparing for takeoff at 8 a.m. when a flight attendant found a box cutter in a tray of bottled water.

Zink said the knife appeared to have been placed on the plane by food service workers, but it has not been determined if the box cutter was accidentally left on the plane or placed there intentionally.

Passengers were deplaned as a precaution following the box cutter discovery. They were allowed to board again and continue to Memphis as scheduled.

The Transportation Safety Administration is investigating.
