Winter Haven's new theme park is hoping to make a splash and help fight the heat with the unofficial start of Summer.

The new water park at Legoland opened Saturday. Lines formed early Saturday as guests in swimwear got ready for some fun in the Sun.

A big celebration ceremony kicked off opening day, with the president of Legoland getting soaked himself by hundreds of gallons of water.

Guests came from all over the state to fly down one of the slides or build their own Lego raft.

"We've loved Legos for a long time and we wanted to be in on the first day of the water park," said park guest Bonnie Behnky. Her grandkids came looking for a way to cool off on their water ride of choice. Various additions to the park include a lazy river ride, several slides, and an interactive playground.

"I think it's going to be pretty cool,” said Justin McElroy, “I was told there are some pretty good slides."

The Cortinas came from Miami to celebrate.

"It's my daughter's 10th birthday today,” said Kathleen Cortinas, “so we decided to come, instead of having a party -- have a day here at Legoland."

"There's some things I've never seen before that are pretty cool,” said Kathleen’s daughter, Cheresa, "This is the best birthday present."

Legoland officials hope families like the Cortinas continue to visit, as Legoland continues to grow toward their goal of becoming a multi-day resort destination.

Admission to the water park requires a Legoland Florida theme park ticket, plus a $12 water park upgrade.

New rides at the water park:

Build-A-Raft River - Families can imagine, design and build a unique LEGO vessel and set afloat on a maiden voyage around the 1000-foot-long lazy river, set amongst playful LEGO Friends, flowering vegetation and palm trees.

Twin Chasers – Friends ride tubes 375 feet down an intertwining pair of enclosed water slides before plunging into a refreshing pool below.

Splash Out – The thrill seekers of the family can ascend to the tallest point of the water park attraction and choose from one of three unique slides, then speed down a 60-foot drop and “splash out” into the water below.

Joker Soaker
- A fun, interactive playground with various lengths, heights and types of slides that offer something different for every member of the family. Guests can wade in the surrounding pool and be surprised with a torrential spill from a 300-gallon bucket.

DUPLO Splash Safari – Toddlers will rule at this water play area with shorter slides and interactive, larger-than-life DUPLO creatures.
