Pinellas County law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty were remembered Wednesday.

The annual observance took place at Memorial Park near the sheriff's administration building.

Several law enforcement officers attended as well as some local representatives.

They honored 24 deputies who have died in the line of duty since 1905, including a Tarpon Springs officer who died in 1926 but wasn't added onto the marker until Wednesday.

"The city historian said they'd come across information that one of their officers had died in the line of duty back in the 1920's, that he had been shot in the line of duty, and it was a tragic event and somehow his name was not on the memorial and it had escaped all of us over the years and it happened a long time ago but we can't forget and shouldn't forget,” said Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri.

There was also a wreath laying, taps, and a 21 gun salute.
