Good news for folks that rely on Citrus County's bus service. The county has some big plans in the works that will make it easier for residents to catch a ride to more places.

It is official, the ground has been broken and Citrus County will soon have a new transit center. This means better bus service for county residents. Right now there is only one fixed bus route or you can be picked up by making a reservation. Citrus Transit officials say the new center means they'll be able to add more bus routes.

County Commissioner Winn Webb says that will be a huge help for a lot of residents.

"Much of our population is elderly and they are having to give up their driver's license and they still need to get from point A to point B, to their doctors," Webb said.

Transit officials say even before the new center is done they plan to roll out a new bus route in September. It will connect Crystal River, Lecanto and Homosassa.

The new transit center will include offices, a bus station and more. County leaders say the center will cost a little more than two million dollars and will be paid for with grant money.

The project should be done by April 2013.
