A Homosassa man is accused of sexually battering a blind, elderly woman at a Citrus County nursing facility.

Daniel C. Hall, 39, is facing charges of sexual battery on an incapacitated victim and lewd and lascivious battery on an elderly person.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the facility on Jan. 10 to investigate reports of sexual abuse. The nurses said they learned about the alleged abuse the day before when the woman complained of painful urination and contacted Adult Protective Services, the report said.

When they arrived, they spoke to the 89-year-old woman, who told them that she had been assaulted by the suspect, who worked at the facility, the report said.

The woman said that she was sitting on the toilet when Hall came and told her he was going to get her ready for bed, which is when the alleged assault happened, deputies said.

Deputies said that they interviewed Hall, and that he eventually admitted to the abuse.  They said that at first Hall could not explain why he did what he did, but that later he told the deputies that "it was the opportunity and the fact that [she] was blind."

Investigators said Hall agreed that if anyone had treated his mother in a similar way, he would be really upset, and that he apologized to the woman for his actions in a letter.

Hall was arrested and taken to the Citrus County Detention Center, where he is being held on $15,000 bond.
