A woman was killed Saturday evening in Redington Beach when she fell out of the small electric car her husband was driving, deputies say.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Larry and Patricia Taylor, both 68, were traveling south on Gulf Boulevard around 6 p.m. in a 2002 GEM, an open-door vehicle often seen in beach communities.

Deputies say that when Larry Gaylor turned left onto 162nd Avenue, Patricia fell out and hit her head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The couple's home residence is listed as Doylestown, Ohio. It was not clear whether they were in the area vacationing.

Investigators said they have not determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. Patricia Taylor was not wearing a seat belt.

Gulf Boulevard was shut down in both directions until about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
