A speeding 25-year-old motorcyclist died Monday after a vehicle turned in front of him, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Christopher Lee Gillen of Brooksville was traveling south on Calienta Street at a high rate of speed near Maplewood Drive around 5:23 p.m. A Toyota Celica driven by Harold Toms III, 60, of Spring Hill was headed north on the same street, troopers said.
When Toms attempted to make a left turn to park on the west shoulder of Calienta, he crossed into the path of the motorcycle, the FHP said,
The car and motorcycle collided head-on, ejecting Gillen, who was not wearing a helmet. Gillen came to rest on the west shoulder of Calienta Street, while the motorcycle landed on top of the truck. Gillen was transported to Bayonet Point hospital, where he later died.
Alcohol was not suspected, but the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, the FHP said.
