A Hudson woman was killed Monday afternoon in a four-car crash on U.S. 19 in Hernando County.

The crash happened at 3:37 p.m. on U.S. 19 just south of River Country Drive in Spring Hill, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Barbara Clark, 58, was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima south on U.S. 19 when, for unknown reasons, a northbound 2001 Pontiac Montana traveled across the grass median and crashed into the left side of her car, the report said.  The impact of the crash ejected the driver of the Pontiac from the car.

A third vehicle, a 2003 Toyota Corolla that was southbound on U.S. 19, crashed into the rear of the Montana. The Corolla was in turn hit by a 2009 Kia Sorrento, the report said.

Clark was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The driver who was thrown from the Montana was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital in serious condition.  Three other people sustained minor injuries.

The investigation continues.
