A motorcyclist walked away with no serious injuries on Thursday after a collision sent him tumbling to the other side of a busy intersection in Clearwater.

Video from a Clearwater traffic camera at Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. and Belcher Road shows Michael Smith, 22, hitting a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant, somersaulting over it, flipping a few times on the roadway, and then eventually standing up on both feet.

After, Smith walked around in the intersection as he tried to get his bearings.

The driver of the car, Alex Jay Hall, 27, was getting ready to turn left on Belcher to Gulf-to-Bay from the middle of the intersection. The light turned red and he proceeded to turn.

Smith told police the light was still green and Hall turned in front of him, and it was too late for him to stop.

"He just came out in front of me so I just braced for impact," said Smith. "Hit the front back brakes the same exact time. I ejected myself. I wasn't going through the car. I had to go over it."

Smith wasn't happy to see the damage done to his bike, which he has named Lindsay. He posted a picture of the wreck on Facebook stating he had “just escaped death.”

Mike’s mother, Juanita Jeffries, had never seen the video of the crash until we showed it to her.

“Oh my God,” she said.  "He came home describing it -- I thought he was a little animated but after seeing that, he's lucky."

Today, Smith is back on a new motorcycle.

"No matter how hard you fall you gotta' get back up," Smith said.

Police later cited Hall for an improper left turn and driving with a suspended license without knowledge.

Police cited Smith for not having a motorcycle endorsement.
