One person died Tuesday morning when two tractor-trailers collided at an intersection near Lake Hamilton and erupted in flames, authorities said.

According to reports, a Sysco tractor-trailer, driven by 37-year-old Jose Santos, of Davenport, was heading southbound on H.L. Smith Road east of Lake Hamilton, and drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Lake Hatchineha Road.

Santos didn't notice an orange DDI Transportation tractor-trailer heading eastbound on Lake Hatchineha Road, and as a result, Santos' tractor-trailer entered into the other's path.

The two tractor-trailers collided, with the rear half of Santos' trailer being impacted by the front of the approaching semi in the intersection, causing both of them to spin.

The other semi's trailer flipped onto its side and blocked both lanes of Lake Hatchineha Road. Both semis caught fire and burned. A utility pole was also broken.

Santos was not injured. First responders extinguished the fire and then recovered the body of the other driver, later identified as Shawn Crew, 42, of Kissimmee.

The intersection was closed for approximately 9 hours.
