What do you do when see a double yellow solid line, especially when you are turning into a business or residence?

Barbara Clark wants to know!  She asks this week:

Is it illegal to make a left turn into a driveway even if that turn requires you to cross over a double yellow line?

Well Barbara, you would be correct in assuming that it is in fact technically illegal!

We asked Sgt. Kim Montes from the Florida Highway Patrol.

"Typically where you are if you have a roadway that’s two lanes and a double-yellow line, typically there would be a gap in that double yellow line to permit that left turn," said Montes.

Your citation, if you are pulled over, could be an improper turn or passing over a double yellow line.

"It's a moving violation and three points on your license.  It's gonna depend on the fine amount on which county you are in.  But you are probably looking at about a hundred sixty dollar fine and three points on your license," said Montes.
