Demolition is in full swing on the former "Without Walls" church in Lakeland.

Crews started tearing down the structure, located at 777 Carpenter's Way, on Tuesday. The building has been vacant since 2011.

The 63-acre property, which borders Lake Gibson, has been neglected and vandalized over the years. Now, a developer has plans to build apartments for seniors and an assisted living facility.

Two different congregations tried to keep the church alive, but both efforts failed.
