Two people were injured Monday when fire broke out on a boat in a Tampa canal.

Firefighters were called to a boat fire in the 4000 block of Starfish Lane at 3:45 p.m. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from a boat that was not secured to a dock.

Crews fought the fire from both sides of a canal. They used a six-foot pike pole to stabilize it while they worked to put out the flames.

Three adults were on the boat at the time of the fire. Two of them were taken to a hospital in stable condition, officials said.

No firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
