The Pinellas County State Attorney's Office has changed the charges against a man involved in a bar fight to manslaughter after the man he fought with died.

Authorities say on February 10 Bobby Ryan, 39, got into an argument with Christopher Motlenski, 53, inside Angelo's Grill and Bar in downtown St. Petersburg.

The two men took the argument outside, then Ryan punched Motlenski in the head. Motlenski reportedly fell backwards and struck his head on the pavement, knocking him unconscious.

Motlenski's injuries led to him being hospitalized at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. He remained unconscious, listed in critical but stable condition.

Ryan was located and arrested at his home and later charged with felony battery. The entire incident was caught on video surveillance.

Motlenski died from his injuries on March 7 while in hospice care. A county medical examiner's report attributed cause of death to complications due to head trauma, and ruled his death a homicide.

Based on that ruling, on Tuesday the State Attorney amended the previous charge of felony assault to manslaughter.
