A 9-year-old Brooksville girl was airlifted to a Tampa hospital Wednesday morning after being she was struck by an SUV at a school bus stop.

The girl suffered what are described as minor injuries by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on State Road 50 near Red Bud Lane just before 8 a.m.

According to troopers, the 37-year-old woman driving a Kia SUV was heading westbound on SR 50 approaching Red Bud Lane when she switched from the outside to the inside lane.

When she saw a stopped car in the inside lane, she switched back to the outside lane and saw a Hernando County school bus picking up students for Morton Elementary School.

When she attempted to stop, she lost control of the SUV, which slid onto the shoulder of the road and hit the girl. The SUV ended up in a ditch on the side of the roadway. The driver was not injured.

The child was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital where she is listed in stable condition with minor injuries.

Officials have not indicated if any charges will be filed.
