A 56-year-old Pinellas County bus driver has been charged with DUI after a minor crash Tuesday.

  • School bus driver Dorothy Burse arrested for DUI after bus was hit
  • Driver of other vehicle took off after collision

Officials said a Pinellas County School bus traveling westbound on 54th Avenue North was stopped at a red light at the intersection of 66th Street when another vehicle collided with the rear of the bus, then drove off.

The bus was transporting seven middle school students from Leaman Innovative. There were no injuries.

During the Florida Highway Patrol investigation, troopers said the bus driver, Dorothy Burse, made them suspicious even though she did not cause the crash.

Burse, a Pinellas school bus driver since 2012,  was given a field sobriety test and was determined to be under the influence and was arrested for DUI. She also is facing a charge of child neglect.

She is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
