Tampa police are investigating a fatal shooting at a pawn shop.

  • Eric Jerome Norton, 20, died after shooting
  • Owner says Norton jumped counter, pointed guns at him
  • Incident happened at City Pawn in Tampa

It happened shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday at City Pawn on East Hillsborough Avenue.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that an unidentified adult male was attempting to rob the pawn shop and was shot by a clerk," the Tampa Police Department said in a news release.

Police identified the man who died as Eric Jerome Norton, 20.

The owner of the pawn shop, Arthur Divi, 41, told police that the man jumped the counter and pointed two guns at him.

Divi then fatally shot the man, police said.

Police said Divi has cooperated with the investigation. He has not been charged.
