A Lakewood High School student was arrested Wednesday for bringing a machete on the school's campus concealed inside a trombone case.
According to a media release, St. Petersburg Police school resource officers arrested Daquan Maybell, 18, after the 28-inch machete was discovered by another student who opened the case to use the trombone.
Officials said Maybell claimed he brought the machete to school because he was going to do yard work immediately after school.
Lakewood High School policy forbids students from bringing weapons of any kind on school property.
