According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Joshua Carmona was arrested early Tuesday morning. His mother, Tahirih Lua D'Angelo was found dead earlier in the day inside her Hawthorne Trace Lane home.

Monday was her 39th birthday.

D'Angelo lived at the townhouse with her husband and their 3-year-old daughter.

Carmona is facing first-degree murder charges in the killing, which deputies described as violent and an act Carmona had been thinking about for a while.

The arrest affidavit says Carmona admitted to striking his mother in the head with an Easton aluminum baseball bat, knocking her unconscious. He then stabbed her in the back of the neck with a large butcher knife, according to the affidavit.

Deputies said Carmona then stole his mother's car and picked up his half-sister at her day care center. By that time, the sheriff's office was searching for the car and found Carmona by Monday evening. He was arrested without incident.

Carmona admitted to the murder, deputies said and added that he had been thinking of killing his mother for a while.

Deputies said he told them when he woke up Monday, he decided to do it.
