Pasco deputies are on the scene of a shooting involving a 15-year-old boy in New Port Richey.

  • Witnesses said fight between two teens led to shooting
  • Fight possibly over money, buying a cell phone
  • Shooter turned himself in at New Port Richey Police station

Deputies said they first received the call regarding the shooting just after 5 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses said the 15 year old and a 17-year-old got into a fight, possibly over money, in the 6400 block of Limerick Avenue.

The 15 year old reportedly then ran, and the other teen followed him, shooting him three times. Neighbors then called 911.

The shooter later turned himself in at the New Port Richey Police station.

"That's unfortunately what we're dealing with in Tampa Bay," said Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco. "You're seeing these kids, 15 and 17 years old, no care in the world, their way of solving problems is to shoot people, and what it's going to do is land him in jail. He's being charged with attempted murder."

Sheriff Nocco was unable to comment on the condition of the injured teen. He did tell us he will be talking to the State Attorney's Office about whether to charge the shooter as an adult.
