Tampa Fire Rescue is investigating an overnight fire that destroyed a home on West Isabel Street near Habana Avenue.

  • Tampa home for sale destroyed in overnight fire
  • Home inhabitable; value in land
  • Flames shot through roof; could be seen a mile away

It took crews about an hour to get the fire under control.

When firefighters arrived on scene, more than half the home was already burning.

Flames were shooting through the roof, which cause the entire roof to collapse as it burned.

The flames and smoke were so big, you could tell there was something burning from miles away.

Amy Bennet said she saw the fire from I-275, about a mile away.

“I smelled the fire and I looked and saw a big, red cloud. I told them there was a fire, and we drove and found it,” Bennet said.

Luckily, no one was inside the home during the fire -- In fact, no one was living in the home.

Officials said the destroyed home was for sale and wasn’t even habitable.

The home, built in the 40s, is listed on Wagner Reality’s website for $475,000.

A comment on the website for the property states:

Property currently has a home on it which should be removed to prepare for highest and best use of land for this location. House is not habitable. Note: Value is in the land.

Fire crews could not say yet if the fire appears suspicious, due to the extensive damage of the home.
