Ulmerton Road has been reopened at 49th Street in Clearwater after an earlier hit-and-run crash Wednesday morning that left a man dead.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened on westbound Ulmerton near 58th Street just before 6 a.m.

Troopers said a 62-year-old St. Petersburg man on a bicycle was struck by two vehicles.

According to the report, the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Ulmerton Rd. in the bike lane when the first vehicle, for an unknown reason, struck the victim and took off.

A second vehicle traveling westbound also hit the bicyclist, who fell to the roadway after the first collision.

The man was pronounced dead on scene.

The westbound lanes were closed between US Highway 19 and 49th Street until about 10 a.m.

Troopers said they have located vehicle parts left on scene by the suspect driver--a side mirror believed to be from a 2003-2008 model Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix, or Toyota Corrola.
