Hernando County Fire Rescue responded to a traffic crash on Interstate 75 early Saturday morning involving two vehicles.
Officials said a semi-tractor trailer jackknifed and blocked several lanes of I-75. The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours.
The crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. on I-75 at mile marker 297. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, officials said.
The crash caused a fuel tank on the semi-truck was ruptured and leaked around 60 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway.
HazMat crews were able to contain the spill which spread nearly ½ mile in a storm drain.
Both drivers received minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
