A couple of Bay area newlyweds are in shock after they say someone stole all the cards received from guests at their wedding reception.

  • Couple had wedding reception at Sunset Grill in Ruskin
  • Loss estimated at nearly $2,000
  • Authorities say they have a suspect

Matt and Marilyn Shuman celebrated their wedding on July 8 at the Sunset Grill in Ruskin. At the end of the night, they were putting the gifts away, when they realized the cards, along with a couple of gifts, had disappeared.

"You just can't believe it," Marilyn Shuman said. "I don't know how many times I said to my family and friends, 'I can not even wrap my head around this.'"

Authorities estimate the loss at nearly $2,000. A detective is reviewing surveillance video to try to determine what happened.

"Our family and me and my husband deserve an apology," Marilyn Shuman said. "'Cause I'm angry. I feel victimized and I'm angry."

The Shumans believe they have a photograph of the wedding thief. They said a person showed up at their reception uninvited and told guests conflicting stories.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office is investigating those 'wedding crasher' reports, and say they do have a suspect in the case.
