Bradenton Police officers responded to a home in the 1900 block of 6th Avenue E. around 11:30 a.m.

Officials confirmed there are two shooting victims. Rufus Adams, 19, suffered gunshot wounds to his head and upper body, and is being treated at Blake Medical Center. The other victim, who has not been named, presumably because he is 12 years old, suffered a lower body gunshot wound and is being treated at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.

Police have confirmed that during the initial phase of the investigation, Joshua Rapolla, 36, who is the victims' stepfather, identified himself as the shooter. he told investigators that the incident began with a verbal argument that led to Adams arming himself with a firearm.

Rapolla told investigators he armed himself with a handgun in response. The argument escalated further, leading Rapolla to fire at Adams.

The shooting of the 12-year-old victim appears to have been accidental.
