A 3-month-old was rushed to the hospital Friday after nearly drowning in the bathtub of a Lakeland home.

The Lakeland Fire Department was alerted of the incident around 11:20 on Thursday morning and rushed to the home.

The infant, who's name has not been released, was stabilized before being airlifted from Lakeland to Tampa General Hospital.

A friend of the baby's mother told Bay News 9 that they tried CPR on the child before rescue crews arrived.

It's not clear what happened in the moments before the near drowning, but police are investigating.

The infants condition is not yet known.
