The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation at a home in Lakeland.
Detectives said it appears the two elderly homeowners were awakened by an intruder in their home and the man shot the intruder.
The intruder, identified as Shane DeShane, 33, died at the scene, officials said.
Detectives are currently conducting interviews and securing a search warrant.
