  • Nurse says she was one of the best she's worked with

Kristin Carlin, 49, was killed in a crash on State Road 580 on Saturday. Clearwater Police say her car ran off the road on a curve near Charles Avenue.

Carlin was an internal medicine doctor for BayCare. She worked at Mease Dunedin Hospital, where nurse Deidra Gilpin said she was one of the best she's worked with.

"I'm devastated. (It's a) huge loss for the medical community. (She was an) amazing physician," Gilpin said. "She was just one of those physicians that would take the time out of her day and really spend time with her patients to really explain things."

When news spread, there was an outpouring of support online from patients and coworkers.

"We’re all just devastated. It’s tragic. You don’t expect to go into work and find out that one of your beloved doctors is gone tragically," Gilpin said.

Carlin worked in the BayCare system for several years. She had been living in New Port Richey.
