Two serious crashes last week on a growing Bay area road have some drivers worried more could come.

  • Recent crashes on State Road 54 have drivers concerned
  • SR 54 experiencing more traffic due to new businesses
  • Troopers are patrolling the area more

State Road 54 in Pasco County is getting more and more crowded as businesses and homes keep getting built there.

Getting to and from home is now getting stressful for Betty Kolongowski.

“It’s getting worse and worse. I guess because there are so many businesses now,” Kolongowski said.

Businesses on SR-54 in Pasco County are booming, with more on the way. But with more traffic can come more crashes.

A crash that took the life of 17-year-old Lllia Morris at Duck Slough on Tuesday night has really stuck with some drivers.

“We lost a beautiful person. That’s the thing that really upset me the most,” Kolonglowski said.

A day later, a driver having a medical emergency caused a seven-car pileup at Curley Road.

The crash also injured a Florida Highway Patrol trooper who was on a motorcycle.

FHP is aware of growing traffic on the highway. Troopers are patrolling the area more and more.

New housing developments and apartment complexes being built on SR-54 are also contributing to the extra traffic.
