SPRING HILL, Fla. -- Hernando deputies have arrested a suspected bank robber.

  • Robbery occurred at the Chase Bank on Mariner Boulevard
  • Video surveillance shows him wearing a Sonny's BBQ employee shirt
  • Police arrested Raul Ernest Velasquez Monday evening

Last Thursday, a man entered the Chase Bank on Mariner Boulevard in Spring Hill and demanded the teller give him money. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

Detectives noticed the man was wearing a red Sonnny's Real Pit BBQ employee T-shirt at the time of the robbery. Law enforcement questioned the employees of the local Sonny's on Commercial Way and they were able to identify him as a former employee.

That individual has been identified as Raul Ernest Velasquez.

After obtaining a warrant, detectives searched Velasquez's home and vehicle. However, he was not at the residence.

Just before 8 p.m. on Monday, Velasquez turned himself in at the Hernando County Detention Center.

Police would like to thank the staff at Sonny's as well as the citizens who came forward with information.
