ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- After an unusually wet May, June didn't live up to its reputation of a wet month. Well, at least not all over the area. Some places really didn't get the rainy season going while others just missed out. This is very apparent in the numbers below. The month did average out above normal but mostly because our morning lows were quite a bit above normal. We had several days during June that the high was below normal by a degree or two, but the morning was 5 to 6 degrees above normal.

Here is a look at the numbers:

Tampa

Avg Temp 83.6 (1.4 degrees above average)

Rainfall 2.95 inches (3.73 inches BELOW normal)

Lakeland

Avg Temp 82.8 (2.0 degrees above average)

Rainfall 10.67 inches (3.65 inches ABOVE normal)

St. Petersburg

Avg Temp 83.7 (1.0 degree above average)

Rainfall 7.37 inches (0.99 inches ABOVE normal)

Bradenton

Avg Temp 82.2 (1.4 degrees above average)

Rainfall 4.36 inches (3.15 inches BELOW normal)

Brooksville

Avg Temp 81.0 (1.1 degrees above average)

Rainfall 5.62 inches (2.03 inches BELOW normal)

Looking forward to July, we really get into the heart of our rainy season. The typical pattern has morning sunshine with afternoon and evening thunderstorms scattered about the area. Highs usually range in the upper 80s along the coast to low 90s inland with lows in the mid to upper 70s. Rainfall averages between 6.5 and 8.5 inches. Looking at the first week of July, we should set ourselves up for a normal summer time pattern.
