PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is investigating an aggravated assault on a church pastor.

  • Man charged after threatening a church pastor with a gun
  • Cornelius Jones charged with aggravated assault

Officials say Cornelius Jones, 91, confronted his live-in girlfriend at the New Bethel AME Church in Lacoochee about why she was still at the church.

During the confrontation, the pastor walked out because he heard a male's voice, the report stated. Officials said the suspect believes his live-in girlfriend is involved with the pastor.

When the pastor walked out, officials said Jones stood up and pointed a gun above his head, threatening the pastor.

At that point, the pastor, the live-in girlfriend, and two other females at the church ran into an office to call 911.

Jones left before deputies arrived and was later arrested at his home in Hernando County.

Jones is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
