SPRING HILL, Fla.-- A man was rescued after being trapped underneath a forklift in Spring Hill on Thursday.

Hernando County Fire Rescue found the 51-year-old male forklift operator trapped beneath the equipment at 13883 Blythewood Drive at about 7:15 a.m., they said.

The incident happened on a new home construction site in an area of loose, sandy soil. Fire rescue said the operator was moving a large section of concrete, when the ground gave way and the forklift fell onto its side.

After about an hour, the man was pulled from underneath the forklift and taken as a trauma alert patient to Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center. No word yet on his condition.
