TAMPA, Fla. -- A Bay area man caused a five-vehicle wreck when he intentionally crashed into a concrete wall.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on the Courtney Campbell Causeway at the Pinellas County line. 

Tampa police said the driver was upset over a recent breakup and intentionally veered into the concrete median wall. Five other vehicles collided with his vehicle in a chain reaction crash. 

Police said two other occupants of the other vehicles were injured and transported to area hospitals with serious but non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured, however, a two-month-old dog riding as a passenger in one of the vehicles died in the crash. 

Police said the driver who caused the crash was taken into involuntary protective custody and transported to the hospital for a mental health examination. 

Police also stated that the crash was not the result of any racing activity.
