HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla — A woman in Hernando County is searching for the owner of a wedding ring she found in the Weeki Wachee River last week. She is determined to find the ring’s owner, because she knows what it feels like to lose a wedding ring.

  • Susan Warner found ring last week
  • Ring has initials "PMP" inscribed on inside
  • Ring is a men's size 11

Thousands of people from all over the country and around the world travel on the Weeki Wachee River each week. Many of them end up leaving things behind.

That's why Susan Warner said she makes it a priority to pick up trash and lost belongings along the river each week.  However, what she found while on a clean-up trip last week came as a surprise.

"As I was diving down in one of the deeper sections grabbing garbage, I saw this shiny gold ring," she explained, "and you can just see the outline of it, and I thought, 'there's no way I'm going to find a ring on the river."

The ring has the initials "PMP" inscribed on the inside, as well as a date. Susan said based on that date, which she does not want us to reveal to ensure the ring gets back to its rightful owner, this person was married over 30 years ago.

Initially, Warner was hoping it was her wedding ring -- she lost hers on the river last month. Though it wasn't her ring, what she felt over losing hers is why she's working so hard to find this ring's owner.

"I was bummed out about it," Susan explained. "When my mom's husband passed away and then she lost his wedding band she was totally devastated."

"I don't know if they are still married, if anything happened to them, but I know that means a lot to people," she added.

Warner says the band is a men’s size 11 ring.
