CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — Flooding in a Citrus County neighborhood has residents worried as more rain keeps falling.

  • County received 13 inches of rain in July
  • Mobile home park owners unresponsive, residents say
  • County officials: park is private property

Neighbors in Citrus County’s Aurora Acres mobile home park say the water is at their doorsteps and they can’t get any help.

“Oh it’s terrible," said resident Pamela McVey. "I have to walk through water to get in and out of my house."

McVey and about a dozen neighbors see water right outside their mobile homes. Many, like Robert Darwin, say they have nowhere else to go.

“What’s the alternative here – move? Who now in this economy has the kind of money it takes to move a mobile home?” Darwin said.

Now they’re worried it’s going to get worse through the rest of the summer.

“Every day it’s going to rain and I’m like, ‘oh no,’" McVey said. "Then I have to worry about if it overtakes things, then I have to watch our water.”

Neighbors say they have gone to the park’s owners for help and haven’t gotten it.

“We’re kind of hung out here to dry," Darwin said. "We’re at our wits' end. We have to get some kind of direction to where we can get some help."

We tried reaching out to the park’s office for comment, but so far have not heard back.

Citrus County officials have told neighbors there’s nothing they can do because it’s private property.

The county recorded 13 inches of rain in July.
