CLEARWATER, Fla. -- A wrong-way crash on the Courtney Campbell Causeway sent a car into the water Sunday morning, killing the driver, according to Clearwater Police.

The crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. Police say a driver, identified as 26-year-old Scott Wolf of Estero, Fl., was heading the wrong way on the access road on the north side of the causeway when he lost control of his 2004 Chrysler Crossfire and crashed into the water.
Police were able to pull Wolf from the water and he was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where he later died.
First responders initially feared that more than one person was in the car and jumped into the water to search.
All lanes of traffic reopened just before 9 a.m.
