The suspect has been tentatively identified as 24-year-old David Katz, of Baltimore, authorities said. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. inside Chicago Pizza at Jacksonville Landing, a downtown shopping complex.

The restaurant was hosting the Madden NFL 19 Tournament. Katz was in the area to attend the event.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Katz and two other people dead. Nine people were transported to area hospitals, Sheriff Mike Williams said during a news conference. Two additional people with gunshot wounds transported themselves to the hospital.

Williams said Katz used a handgun in the shooting.

Electronic Arts, the developer of the Madden games, released a statement Sunday.

"We are aware of an incident at a sanctioned Madden Championship Series competition in Jacksonville. We are working with authorities to gather facts at this stage. This is a horrible situation, and our deepest sympathies go out to all involved."

The tournament was live streamed on the website Twitch. Gunshots could be heard in the video as people scream in the background.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott said he had spoken to Williams to "offer any state resources he may need."
