OLDSMAR, Fla. -- Two suspected thieves were arrested Saturday night after a home invasion, a robbery, and an attempted kidnapping in Oldsmar -- and neighbors helped lead to the arrests.

  • Two arrested; third suspect still on the loose

Pinellas County deputies said three people in masks broke into a house on Shoreview Lane, pistol-whipped a man, and demanded drugs and money.

They say the thieves forced the man inside his car and tried to drive away, but luckily he was able to jump from the moving car and run to neighbors for help.

One man on Country Club Drive jumped into action after seeing someone running through the neighborhood.

"I saw a shadow go across the yard there,” Darrel Campbell said. "I just grabbed a stick and a flashlight and I went back over beside the house to see what was going on," he explained.

After the victim was able to get away, police said one of the victim's tried to flee the area, but was led straight to deputies with Campbell’s help.

"I must have chased him right to the officer because he grabbed him," Campbell said.

Another suspect tried to get into Scotty Reynolds house, but an officer arrested the thief in Reynolds front yard.

"It was freaky. I didn't know if he had a gun or not," Reynolds said.

The neighbors say they're just glad no one was seriously hurt.

"Everybody watches over everybody around this neighborhood. We know who belongs and who doesn't belong," Campbell said.

Twenty-one-year old Quadre Brown and a minor, who we're not naming due our crime guidelines, were taken into custody.

Deputies believe a third person they haven't identified yet got away in an unknown car.

The man injured in the robbery was treated at a local hospital. He's expected to be okay.
