ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Pinellas deputies have arrested a St. Petersburg man for attempted murder after he seriously injured a man with a knife.

  • Man arrested after cutting other man's throat, police say
  • Police say attack occurred after sexual encounter between the men
  • Michael Drake charged with 2nd-degree attempted murder

Michael Drake, 38, is accused of attacking Mark Kimball, 54, after a sexual encounter at 5201 77th Street North on Thursday.

Kimball told police that he met up with Drake, who is an acquaintance of his, at Drake's home for consensual sex. Afterward, Kimball said Drake attacked him with a knife and cut his neck before leaving the home.

Deputies say Kimball placed a towel around his neck and walked down the street looking for help. A resident found Kimball on his property and called 911.

Authorities said Kimball had already been transported to a hospital by the time deputies arrived.

While deputies were searching for Drake in the area, they received a 911 call at a nearby residence, located at 5252 79th Street North, for a burglary. Authorities say deputies found Drake at the residence and he was taken into custody.

Authorities said Drake admitted to cutting Kimball with a 10" to 12" kitchen knife, which they located at Drake's home.

Drake was booked into the Pinellas County jail and charged with one count of second-degree attempted murder.

Authorities also noted that the burglary victim requested not to press charges.
