ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash Thursday night involving a deputy. 

  • Deputy-involved crash in St. Pete
  • Deputy made a U-turn on a red arrow
  • Minor injuries to deputy; other driver okay

The crash occurred around 9:23 p.m. at the intersection of Tyrone Blvd. North and Park Street North in St. Petersburg. 

Officials said Deputy Shawn Livernois was driving his marked cruiser westbound on Tyrone Blvd. when he made a U-turn at Park Street North on red arrow.  Officials say Deputy Livernois was going to assist another deputy in the area with a traffic stop. 

When Livernois made the U-turn, he drove into the path of 59-year-old David Lawhead, who was driving eastbound on Tyrone Blvd. with a green traffic light. 

Lawhead's vehicle crashed into the passenger side of the deputy cruiser. 

Lawhead was uninjured in the crash and Livernois was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. 

Officials also said Livernois did not have his emergency lights or sirens activated at the time of the crash. 

The crash remains under investigation.
