She was shot Saturday, Jan. 20, in the wooded area near Webster, according to a Sumter Sheriff's report.

The report said the girl was alert when she was taken to a Circle K on State Road 471 in Tarry Town, where Sumter Fire Rescue and deputies met her and several adults.

But she had "significant trauma" to her lower right leg as well as a laceration on the inside of her left foot.

She was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, where she was doing "remarkably well for what she had been through," a detective said and her injuries were not life-threatening.
