WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — City police are investigating the death of a 21-year-old man who was shot and killed while in bed over the weekend.

• Victim identified as Darnell Powell
• Police say incident does not appear to be random

The incident happened about 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the area of Ave. V NE and 5th St. NE in Winter Haven.

Officers received calls that multiple gunshots were heard in the area.

It appeared the shots were fired from outside and through a window, the Winter Haven Police Department said.

Darnell Powell was found with gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Police said the incident did not appear to be a random act.
