CLEARWATER, Fla. — Clearwater Police Friday said the 88-year-old man and 80-year-old woman shot and killed last weekend were targeted by the suspect.

Mina and Dave Swan were murdered inside their Flushing Avenue home.

Police Chief Dan Slaughter said the person who shot them went to the home specifically to kill.

"They went there to murder this nice elderly couple," Slaughter said. "And I can't tell you why yet. But I'm going to work pretty hard trying to."

Daughter Noel Devine talked Friday about her parents, doing so before television cameras at the Clearwater Police Department.

"Mom and dad loved life," Devine said. "They just came back from their second trip to Iceland. They loved it so much. This time they were careful not to go when it snowed."

Devine thanked detectives and everyone at the department for working so hard on behalf of her parents.

Police are looking at a 24-hour window during which the couple was killed and when their bodies were discovered inside the home.

Detectives are also focusing their attention on people who knew the Swans, saying this was not a random crime.

Police and Devine find it hard to imagine the couple had any enemies.

"Please remember our mom and dad," Devine said. "Keep them in your thoughts."
