ST. PETERSBURG, Florida — St. Petersburg Police detectives arrested a man Wednesday in connection with the discovery of two bodies in an alleyway the day before and charged him with first degree murder.

Charles Edward Hixon Jr. was arrested and charged in the deaths of Kenneth Leo Shook, 35, and Cheryl Lee Casey, 58. The bodies of Shook and Casey were found off 14th Avenue South on Tuesday morning.

At the time the bodies were found, investigators said "drug overtones" were evident in the scene.

Hixon was released from prison this past April for a 2009 robbery. Police said he's been listed as a transient since his release.

Hixon was booked at the Pinellas County Jail Wednesday evening.
