TAMPA, Fla. — Adventure Island water park is currently closed for the off-season.
- K-9 units train at Adventure Island
- Multiple law enforcement agencies participate
- Several scenarios set up at the water park
But on Monday, the park opened its doors to host local K-9 units for water training.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Tampa Police Department, are participating in the training.
Several scenarios have been set up in the water park to prepare K-9s for rescue operations involving water. Handlers are also teaching the dogs how to search for suspects around water.
"Water poses a unique challenge for K-9s if they aren't exposed to it," Tampa Police spokesman Steve Hegarty said in a news release.
Once the training is complete Adventure Island will drain the pools.
