  • Crash occurred around 1:55 p.m.
  • Michael Richardson, 55, struck while placing bicycle on bike rack

Investigators said the crash occurred at 1:55 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard.

A PSTA bus was stopped at a designated bus stop just south of 4th Avenue. That's when, according to investigators, David Schwab, 58, crossed over into the northbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard from the other side of the road and collided with the front end of the bus.

At the time of the collision, Michael Richardson, 55, was placing his bicycle on the bus's bicycle rack, which is mounted on the front of the bus. Richardson sustained life-threatening injuries when he was caught between the two vehicles in the crash.

Richardson was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

No passengers on the bus were injured.

Schwab consented to a blood draw at the hospital which indicated he had a BAC of .083. He was charged with DUI Manslaughter and DUI with Property Damage.

Schwab remains in the hospital, but will be transported to the Pinellas County Jail upon his release.
