SPRING HILL, Fla. — One of the busiest fire stations in Spring Hill is temporarily closed because of mold.

  • Shower pans had been leaking, causing mold
  • Building closed for treatment
  • Deputy Fire Chief says response times not affected

Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Carroll said a few weeks ago, one of the officers who works at that location was in the workout area of Station 4 on Mariner Blvd. and leaned on a wall. That's when his hand went through the dry wall.

They discovered one of the shower pans had been leaking, causing mold that could affect their health.

The officers who work in the building have been relocated to nearby stations for the time being.

The building is now closed for treatment, but Carroll said response times won’t be affected.

"Our operations chief has assigned what we would call roving patrols if you will. We do have the units that are currently monitoring and taking turns overlapping each other to make sure we still have coverage in this area," Carroll explained.

Hillsborough County is sending up a portable fire station for Hernando County to use outside station 4 while the mold is being removed.

They hope to have that in about a week.
