MELBOUNRE, Fla. — So many people are still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, including many you may not think of.

Melbourne Police and Indian Harbour Beach Police are collecting donations for fellow officers and first responders in the Panhandle, who have been busy helping others while their homes remain damaged and in disrepair.

The need is for home-repair supplies, plus gift cards to buy them. Their goal is to help some 60 families who have loved ones working for the Bay County Sheriff's Office.

“We want to give them whatever supplies they need. Some of the things they have asked for, financial contributions in the form of gift cards to Home Depot and Walmart so they can help rebuild -- building supplies, screws, nails and hammers. Things for actually hands-on building are the primary items they are looking for,’ said Lt. Cheryl Trainer with the Melbourne Police Department.

There's still time for you to donate items to Melbourne and Indian Harbour police departments will be packing up late afternoon Wednesday with plans to drive up to the Panhandle early Thursday morning.
