HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — The Hernando County Department of Health announced Thursday that a food service worker who tested positive for Hepatitis-A worked at a Hernando Beach restaurant between December 1-3, and that anyone who frequented that restaurant on or between those dates should be vaccinated.

According to a news release, the county's health department confirmed the positive case on December 11. Immediately after, they determined that the individual worked at ZigZag Scallop restaurant, located at 4417 Calienta Street, on the specified dates.

Department officials advised that if you have already received the Hepatitis-A vaccine, no further action is necessary. However, if you have not previously been vaccinated, you should do so immediately.

The Department of Health is offering free vaccinations at their clinic, located at 7551 Forest Oaks Boulevard in Spring Hill. They will also offer a special vaccination clinic at their Spring Hill location from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 15. 

Earlier this year, two cases of Hepatitis-A were identified in Bay area food service workers. The first worked at a Hamburger Mary's Bar and Grille location in Ybor City. That location has since closed.

The second case was identified a little over a week later. That individual worked at a St. Pete Beach restaurant.

Hepatitis A is a highly contagious disease of the liver. According to health officials, people infected are most contagious from two weeks before onset of symptoms to up to one week after.

The Hernando County Department of Health has set up a 24-hour hotline for people who may have questions about Hepatitis-A. The number to call is 352-247-6111.
